Claude George Bowes-Lyon, KG.,KT.,GCVO., 14th Earl; born 14th March 1855; succeeded 1904; LL D. St.Andrews; formerly Lieut. 2nd Life Guards; is Pres. of Angus TA., Asso.,Hon. Col. 4th/5th Batn. the Black Watch (TD), patron of one living, a K.St.J., a DL., for co.of City of Dundee, and a JP. for Herts.; 32 Years Lord Lieut. of Angus; GCVO. 1923, KT. 1928 and Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (peerage of United Kingdom) and KG. 1937; married 1881 Cecilia Nina, GCVO., who died 1938, daughter of the late Rev.Charles William Cavendish-Bentinck [see D Portland, colls.] and has issue.

Arms: Quarterly; 1st and 4th argent, a lion rampant azure, armed and langued gules, within a double tressure flory counterflory of the second, Lyon: 2nd and 3rd ermine, three bows, strings palewise proper, Bowes:. Royal Augmentation (granted to the holder of the Earldom only) An inescutcheon en surtout azure, thereon a rose argent, barbed vert, seeded or. ensigned with an Imperial Crown proper within a double tressure flory-counterflory of the second, the said inescutcheon ensigned with an Earl’s coronet proper. Crest: Between two slips of laurel, a lady to the girdle, habited, and holding in her right hand a thistle all proper. Supporters: Dexter, a unicorn argent, armed, unguled, maned and tufted or; sinister, a lion per fesse or and gules.
