Michael Bowes-Lyon, 18th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne

THE [18th] EARL OF STRATHMORE AND KINGHORNE, Viscount Lyon, Lord Glamis, Tannadyce, Sidlaw and Strathdichtie, Baron Bowes of Streatlam Castle, Co Durham, and of Lunedale, Co York, and Chief of the Name and Arms of Lyon
born 7 June 1957, the only son of Fergus Michael Bowes-Lyon and Mary Pamela McCorquodale.


A Grandnephew of the late Queen Mother and first cousin, once removed, of Queen Elizabeth II.

Michael attended Sunningdale School, Eton, the University of Aberdeen, and RMA Sandhurst.

A former Captain in the Scots Guards and a former Peer in the House of Lords excluded from the House by the House of Lords Act of 1999 which abolished most hereditary peerages.
Michael succeeded his father as the Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne in 1987.

has been married twice.

In 1984 Michael married Isobel Charlotte Weatherall daughter of Captain Anthony E. Weatherall

Michael and Isobel have three sons:

  • The Hon. Simon Patrick Bowes-Lyon, Lord Glamis (b. 18 June 1986)
  • The Hon. John Fergus Bowes-Lyon (b. 1988)
  • The Hon. George Norman Bowes-Lyon (b. 1991)

Michael and Isobel separated in 2003 and divorced a year later in July 2004.

On November 24, 2005 Michael married Dr. Damaris E Stuart-William at Glamis Castle.
Michael and Damaris have one son:

  • The Hon. Toby Peter Fergus Bowes-Lyon (b. 2005)
