Burke’s Peerage and Baronetcy (1863)

A member of the French family LYON  (which sprang from the noble Roman house of LEONI) accompanied the Norman into England in 1066 and removed into Scotland in about thirty years afterwards. This Lyon was high in favour with the Scottish King Edgar and obtained from that prince considerable grants in Perthshire, to which he gave the name Glen-Lyon.
