In January 1829 [Major-General John Fremantle] married an sugar plantation heiress with a dowry of £59,000 after a whirlwind courtship in Brighton, She was Agnes Lyon, whose father David had made a fortune in Jamaica: John had met her brother when serving there. [Arthur] Wellington was first witness at their wedding in St Ceorge’s, Hanover Square, and Fitzroy Somerset was also a witness. Their first two sons were named Arthur and Fitzroy after them,

Agnes Lyon was born in 1795 in London, Middlesex, England. She died in 1864 at the age of 69.

Agnes Lyon and John Fremantle were married on 17th January 1829.
